MR & MRS B - BRIDGWATER

ENTRANCE EXTENSION | BOOT ROOM | SHOWER ROOM

Nina and Bryan came to us with a clear goal, to create a more practical entrance that suited country living, with space to kick off boots, store coats, and add a much-needed shower room. Their existing porch and cloakroom felt tight and didn’t work for day-to-day life, so we worked with them to reimagine the footprint through a small extension that would make a big difference.

Claire designed the new internal layout alongside their builder, carefully planning the space, the flow, and the material specifications so everything felt connected, thoughtful, and built for real life. The brief was to make a dramatic first impression the moment you walk through the door, while linking seamlessly back to the existing kitchen.

Blue became the focal colour, bringing depth and character to the entrance, while oak was introduced to soften the scheme and reflect the rural setting. The blue used was to compliment their kitchen (a shade deeper blue) which we designed, supplied and installed a few years ago. Nina wanted to link through from the entrance lobby to their kitchen using the couple's favourite colour. The result is a welcoming, practical space that feels elevated, but still completely suited to muddy boots and everyday routines.

BOOT ROOM & ENTRANCE

To create a statement entrance that still works hard, we chose Stori Belgravia inframe for the boot room cabinetry. The inframe detailing instantly adds a premium feel, and it’s the sort of design that suits the character of a country home while still feeling fresh and considered.

Storage was key, so we designed a bespoke cupboard to hide hats, pet accessories, and all the little bits that can quickly make an entrance feel cluttered. Keeping those everyday items out of sight means the space stays calm and tidy, without losing practicality.

For shoes and boots, we created an open rack for easy access, with a design that doubles as a handy perch when you’re pulling on wellies. This piece was made bespoke too, using the same Belgravia inframe style in an oak effect, tying the scheme together beautifully and adding warmth against the stronger indigo tones.

Underfoot, we specified herringbone cement board flooring in Classic Oak, a hard wearing and waterproof choice that’s ideal for an entrance. It gives the look of wood with the durability needed for a busy threshold, and the herringbone pattern adds just the right amount of detail.

To finish the space, Nina wanted something a little different for Somerset country living, so Claire and Nina decided on the wallpaper being bold and adding impact when stepping into the home.

Rather than covering every wall, we used it minimally so it could shine as a feature and add that sense of drama and personality they wanted as soon as you step inside.

SHOWER ROOM

From the entrance, the design flows through into the new shower room, keeping the look cohesive with the continued flooring and carefully chosen finishes. The wallpaper was used on the window wall, creating a feature moment that pulls the eye through and keeps the sense of style consistent, rather than feeling like a separate, forgotten room.

The vanity was designed in an inframe style too, using a Salisbury door in Sapphire Blue, bringing that rich blue tone through in a refined way. It’s a great example of how colour can feel bold but still timeless when it’s balanced with the right materials.

For the sanitaryware, we specified Laufen Pro, including the toilet and matching wash basin, paired with a Flair shower and screen for a clean and modern finish. An HiB illuminated mirror was included to add soft, practical lighting and elevate the overall feel of the room.

A SPACE THAT EVOLVED AS THE BUILD DID

As with many renovation projects, requirements changed during the build. The key was being flexible, responding quickly, and adjusting the design as new ideas and practical needs came up. That’s where having a designer involved throughout makes such a difference, it keeps the vision intact while allowing the project to evolve naturally.

All in all, this is a fantastic transformation, a new entrance that feels inviting, interesting, and genuinely useful, with a boot room and shower room that work perfectly for Nina and Bryan’s lifestyle and puppies!
