OPEN PLAN KITCHEN RENOVATION | NEWTON ABBOT

Mr & Mrs Dove-Medows

SPACE

Mr and Mrs Dove-Medows came to us looking to completely rethink how their home worked for everyday living. The existing kitchen was in a separate room, while the lounge and dining area offered a better opportunity to create something open, social and full of light.

The project involved moving the kitchen from one room to another, transforming the former lounge and diner into a beautiful open plan kitchen, living and dining space. By knocking through an existing window and adding double doors, the new layout also created direct access outside, helping the space feel brighter, more connected and far more practical for modern family life.

THE BRIEF

The aim was to create a kitchen that felt welcoming, elegant and easy to live with. Mr and Mrs Dove-Medows wanted the space to feel open and sociable, somewhere that could work just as well for everyday cooking as it could for gathering with family and friends.

Storage and flow were important too. With the kitchen moving into a new part of the home, the design needed to make the most of the room, create useful zones, and keep the overall finish calm and uncluttered.

THE DESIGN

For the cabinetry, we chose Stori Wakefield in a soft combination of Willow Green and Taupe Grey. The two colours work beautifully together, bringing warmth, softness and a timeless feel to the room. Willow Green adds gentle character without overpowering the space, while Taupe Grey keeps the overall design grounded and elegant.

The Wakefield door style gives the kitchen a classic feel, but the colour palette and layout bring it right up to date. It is a lovely example of how a traditional-style kitchen can feel fresh, modern and completely personal. Alongside this, each element considered their budget and expectations.

WORKTOPS AND FINISHING DETAILS

The worktops were finished in Spider Gold quartz, adding a luxurious statement to the design. The veining brings movement and interest, while the quartz surface offers the durability needed for a busy kitchen.

A Quooker brushed brass tap was selected to add both practicality and a warm metallic accent. It ties beautifully with the tones in the worktop and gives the kitchen that extra touch of everyday luxury.

CLEVER STORAGE

One of the standout features of this kitchen is the bifold dresser unit, designed to hide worktop appliances when they are not in use. This keeps the kitchen looking tidy and considered, while still making everyday items easy to access.

It is a simple but effective design choice, perfect for clients who want a calm, clutter-free kitchen without compromising on practicality.

THE RESULT

This renovation has completely changed the way Mr and Mrs Dove-Medows use their home. By moving the kitchen into the former lounge and dining area, opening up the layout, and introducing double doors to the outside, the space now feels brighter, more spacious and far better connected.

The combination of Willow Green, Taupe Grey, Spider Gold quartz and brushed brass detailing creates a kitchen that feels elegant, warm and inviting, with clever storage designed around real life.

A beautiful transformation, and a wonderful example of how thoughtful design can turn an underused space into the true heart of the home.
